CustomInk Internship

  User Experience Deliverables

I worked on several projects as an intern at CustomInk, but one of my main contributions was integrating accounts onto the site. The addition required a lot of user testing, which was the main element of user experience I was hoping to delve into. A detailed description of the accounts process is available:

  BEA Submission by SMAD

For my SMAD 308 (Interactive Design for the Web II) final project, we collaborated with a journalism class to make a website using the content they provided. Each student in my class was responsible for creating their own solution for displaying the content. My website was chosen to represent JMU in the the Broadcast Education Association student competition in Las Vegas. A judge for the competition remarked: "I love the style, look, and feel of this; it makes a lot of sense for the content, and the type of audience who would come here! This is extremely professionally done."

K12 Relaunch

  Information Architecture, Prototyping, Visual Design

While working as an intern at K12, I assisted with the next launch of the high school product. The entire site was being redesigned at the time, and I consulted with design companies on the look and feel of the site, put together prototypes of the user flow with Axure, and created speculations for each page. It was through this project that I was first introduced to information architecture, as I worked with wireframes and discussed changes to the intended functions.

22807 Magazine

  Creative Direction

During my time at JMU, I was a part of the rebranding and reconstruction of the student publication 22807. As creative director, I reassessed the purpose and vision of the magazine and used this brand strategy when overseeing production. I led a group of designers, photographers, and videographers by assigning tasks based on the feature stories in progress. I was also in charge of making sure our "Voices" - the bloggers that worked under 22807's name - stayed on brand and were curated into our production.
